#ROSLove Bingo!
Show your love for Roslindale by supporting local businesses and organizations. RVMS is running a neighborhood-wide bingo game in February where residents can visit local businesses in Roslindale and check off squares (or take a photo if playing along digitally) as you complete the actions. Post photos of your progress on social media to connect with friends and neighbors and spread the word about your favorite Roslindale shops and restaurants. One of the squares says “Visit Your Local Library.” Post photos of yourself at the Roslindale Library borrowing a book or buying a book from the Friends’ “Daily Sales” shelves!
Once you get Bingo, send RVMS a photo or drop it off at their office or the Winter Farmers Market for the chance to win prizes. Post photos using the hashtags: #ROSLove and #ROSBingo and tag them to be featured and for the chance to win additional prizes! For more information: roslindale.net/roslove-bingo
BPL president visits Roslindale Library!
Last month BPL President David Leonard and Clerk of the BPL Trustees Pamela Carver visited Roslindale Library to meet with the Friends about the current state of our library and future renovation plans. We were very impressed with Mr. Leonard’s ambitions for all branch libraries and we look forward to working with him and his staff during the renovation process. To learn more about the renovation project, go to friendsofroslindalelibrary.org/renovation.
Volunteers Wanted
If you love Roslindale Library, why not volunteer with us! We are looking for volunteers for a number of Friends’ and library programming, including staff and sorters for our upcoming yarn and book sales, and new members for our decoration, renovation, and race and inclusion committees. Please view the job descriptions on VolunteerMatch. If you are interested in any of the positions, contact us at [email protected].
Volunteer with the Boston Debate League!
Occasionally, we will share information about organizations we partner with, including the Boston Debate League (BDL). Please consider being a volunteer judge with BDL, where you will be able to support Boston Public School students as they build and develop their critical thinking skills through the activity of debate. The Boston Debate League supports 20 high schools and 16 middle schools with a goal of expanding to a total of 75 schools by 2021. To sustain the program and continue its expansion into more schools, the Boston Debate League needs volunteers. If you can spend time serving as a debate judge, follow the link to sign up today. Contact Vernee Wilkinson [email protected] with any questions.
We want your yarn!
The Friends are accepting donations for our annual yarn and craft book sale, which will take place the first weekend in March. Drop off yarn, needles, fabric, project and tote bags, craft books and other crafting accessories at the library during business hours. This year’s keynote speaker will be Diane Ivey of Lady Dye Yarns. Please visit the yarn sale’s web page for more information.
Books of the Month
Each month we feature themed book lists grouped for adults, teenagers/young adults, and children, and can be borrowed from the Roslindale Library!
Books about African-American “Firsts”
In honor of black history month, we have compiled a list of books celebrating first achievements by African Americans that have led to major cultural shifts.
Books about Love and Friendship
Valentine’s Day is the one time of the year to show your love and compassion for people in your life you most care about. Check out this list that celebrates both romantic and platonic relationships!
What do you love to read?
Many of you are also book lovers! Did you read a book that you would like Roslindale to know about? Tell us about it! It can be any fiction or nonfiction book for any age group. We might include it in a future book list. Email your recommendations to [email protected].
Words of Wisdom
Love does not begin and end the way we seem to think it does. Love is a battle, love is a war; love is a growing up. – James Baldwin
