Rozzie Reads One Book:
Go Set A Watchman by Harper Lee
Every year we pick one book to read as a community, and host a series of events and discussions around the themes in the book.
We have selected the book Go Set A Watchman by Harper Lee – the story of a grown up Scout who returns to Maycomb, which raises the question “is it truly possible to return to the home of your youth?” The book explores the changing culture around race in 1950s America.
Copies of Go Set A Watchman are available now to borrow from the Roslindale Branch Library.
Thanks to the Parkway Rotary Club for their donation of funds to purchase this book, and to our other partners Roslindale Transcript, 826 Boston and Birch Street House and Garden.
Youth Essay Writing Contest with our partners 826 Boston
Boston students in grades 6-12 are eligible to submit one essay into either one of two judging categories (grades 6-9 & grades 10-12). Cash Prizes: First Prize $125, Second Prize $100, and Third Prize $75. Submission deadline is March 12. Subject of the essay should be “How can our next president work to unite the country around racial tensions.” Essay submissions of 400 to 500 words can be dropped off at 826 Boston on 3035 Washington Street in Roxbury, or the Roslindale Branch Library, or submitted online by email to [email protected]. Winners will be announced in the Roslindale Transcript and at the March 30 panel discussion.

All the work we do for library programming, publicity and building improvements is done with support from the community. There are many ways to support the Friends, like making a donation, becoming a Friends member and even shopping on Amazon!
