Learn useful phrases in order to communicate basic information. Understand cultural customs, develop a basic understanding of weather expressions, time, color, numbers, seasons, transportation, useful verbs, and more. Please call the library to register. Free ($12 to teacher for the class book)
Instructor Biography
Maria Conte is a native Italian speaker and multi-talented instructor. She comes from a family of bakers and agriculturists, and has been a passionate cook since childhood. As a teenager she enjoyed working in her family’s restaurant in Ponza, Italy. Maria is also a cooking instructor and offers cooking classes to children and adults. Maria’s academic background and expertise are vast. She received degrees in education from the Institute Mater Divinae Gratiae in Italy, from NEMTEC (New England Montessori Teacher’s Education Center), and is OFC qualified. Additionally, she also attended courses to be trained in teaching Italian (and other modern languages), to foreigners and as a second language at the “Università per Stranieri di Siena,” Italy. Further, Maria specializes in Italian literature, Spanish linguistics, and studio Art. Maria has taught children and adults for many years in Italy, as well as in the United States, adopting traditional and Montessori’s didactic methods. Her most recent working background in teaching foreign languages includes Boston Center for Adult Education, Brookline Adult & Community Education, Cambridge Center for Adult Education, Boston Language Institute, CASIT (Centro Attività Scolastiche Italiane) and tutoring college students. Currently, Maria is engaged in teaching Italian and Spanish languages, culture, travel, arts & crafts, and cooking courses in various schools in Boston and surroundings as well as privately. Moreover, she offers translation services. Her hobbies include: gardening, crochet, knitting, quilting, painting, and reading. Lastly, Maria has a warm personality, is very patient and works cooperatively with all.
