The Friends wrote the following letter last week to our city councilors in response to some concerns about security at the Roslindale branch. We encourage community members to also reach out to their local elected officials on this matter.
Dear Councillors Arroyo, Meija, Flaherty, Murphy, and Louijeune,
We are writing to urge you to address the need for added security at the Roslindale Branch Library. There have been recent protests in our neighborhood and disruptions at the Central Library and Hyde Park branch, from people insisting on entering without wearing masks. The library staff in Roslindale needs the backup that a security guard can provide.
We have had guards in the branch in the past when needed and this seems to be such a time once again. We also believe there are potential liability issues if a guard is not provided, now that incidents are known to have occurred.
Thanks for your quick attention to this matter,
Amy Gitlin, Natalie Prochnow, Greg Tobin, Constance Martin, Laura Gang, on behalf of the Steering Committee of the Friends of Roslindale Library
