Annual Book Sale
May 10 – 13
This is Roslindale’s biggest book sale! New this year: We will be opening the sale on Wednesday, May 10, with music for the Members Reception provided from 6-8 pm by The Elara Trio: Clare Nielsen (flute), Ellen Donohue-Saltman, (French horn), and Laura Dowd (piano). They will be playing classical music and songs arranged for these instruments. Clare, Ellen, and Laura have been playing together as a trio since 2006. They regularly perform in the Boston area and enjoy being in the same book group.

Teens Talk: Race + Identity in 2017
Thursday, May 25, 6:30 PM – 8 PM, Washington Irving Middle School
Join us for some real talk about race in America with our panel of high school students. This event will also feature a resource fair. All community members are invited, especially middle and high school students and their families. Pizza will be served!

Resilience & Resistance Film Series
Saturday, May 6, 6:30 pm, Roslindale Congregational Church
Films that explore authoritarianism, nationalism, and attacks on core democratic values will be shown. The documentary, 13th, will be screened, followed by a discussion. Suggested donation: $5. Co-sponsored by the Friends.
Second Saturday Reading Series

Poetry Workshop with Anastasia Vassos
Saturdays, May 6 & 13, Noon – 1:45 pm
We will work in a safe, constructive environment to discuss matters of craft, to read your poems and offer encouragement and suggestions. We will consider the work of other poets to enhance our understanding of what makes a good poem. Poetry prompts will be provided to stimulate your creativity. Computer Literacy Drop-In Clinic

The Friends are offering free basic computer literacy support for those who need help with Microsoft Word, Excel or Powerpoint, email and Internet issues, social media, basic computer hardware and software Issues, and how to download BPL content onto your computer or tablet Bring your computer (if you have one) and questions for quick advice!

Poets of Color Event Photos
Thanks to everyone who came out for this special event with the city’s poet laureate, Danielle Legros Georges, last Thursday. The room was full of people and great poetry flowed throughout the event. We heard readings of poems written by Langston Hughes, Gwendolyn Brooks, Phyllis Wheatly, Rita Dove, Maya Angelou, June Jordan, Audre Lorde, Paul Laurence Dunbar and many more! Renovation Project Update!
The Renovation Committee recently announced that the architects for the design phase have been selected! We are awaiting word that the contract has been signed. Speaking of volunteers, congratulations to Friends treasurer Talia Whyte on being selected Volunteer of the Year by Roslindale Village Main Streets for her work in the community! She will be recognized with other selected Main Streets volunteers throughout Boston at a gala hosted by Mayor Walsh in June.
