Teen Upcycling Sewing Program
Monday, July 8, 1 – 2 PM
Have you ever wanted to design your own clothes? Well, now, you can! You will learn how to redesign your old clothes to make them look new! You will also learn how to measure for fit, make patterns, cut fabrics, and use a variety of hand-sewing skills. Come create with us! Artist Nahdra Ra will lead the 60-minute program. Registration is not required.

Cribbage Club
Wednesdays, July 10 & 24 at 2:00 – 3:30 pm
Join us to play this unique and addictive card game. Players score points by collecting different combinations of cards, and the score is kept by putting small pegs in holes in a board. Players of all levels are welcome. Registration is not required.
Free Legal Clinics for Immigration Assistance
Thursday, July 11, 3 – 7 PM
Rian Immigrant Center’s expert legal staff and pro bono attorneys will offer free, drop-in legal consultations for immigrants. Translators will be present to assist. (Please note that attorneys cannot review or fill out forms.) Registration is not required.
VITA Free Tax Preparation
Saturdays, July 13 & 27 and August 10 & 24
(2nd and 4th Saturday of the month through October 2024)
10 AM – 1 PM
VITA (Volunteer Income Tax assistance) will be at the Roslindale Branch Library with free drop-off tax assistance.
Taxpayers must show the Social Security cards and IDs of all adult individuals on the tax return. VITA does not prepare taxes for visa holders and states only forms. VITA will prepare only the tax years 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023. The taxpayer will mail tax returns for the years 2020 and 2021 to the IRS and State.
- Taxpayers will leave income documents for tax preparation.
- All documents will be returned when the taxpayer returns to pick up the completed Federal and State tax forms on the following service day. The completed tax return forms can also be emailed to the taxpayer for approval.
- Household income limit is $70,000

Fixit Healthcare Documentary Screening and Discussion
Saturday, July 13, 3 – 4:30 PM
Join us for a screening of the 2017 58-minute documentary Fix It—Healthcare at the Tipping Point. The film takes an in-depth look into how the United States healthcare system negatively affects our nation’s health. More than forty voices advocate for reform, including activists, health policy experts, economists, physicians, nurses, patients, business, and labor leaders. Registration is not required.
Introduction to William Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale

Get ready for Commonwealth Shakespeare Company’s free performances of William Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale on Boston Common from July 16 – August 4 by introducing us to the play. One of Shakespeare’s later plays, The Winter’s Tale, includes murderous passions, man-eating bears, princes and princesses in disguise, death by drowning and by grief, oracles, betrayal, and unexpected joy. Yet the play, which draws much of its power from Greek myth, is grounded in the everyday. Registration is not required.

Ready to Eat? You will learn how to prepare various quick, yummy, & healthy dishes on a small budget. Learn safe cutting techniques, cooking skills, and a variety of healthy on-the-go meals. Mah Jongg Club

Teen Character Design Workshop

Hosted by local graphic artist and animator Myranda V. Peterson, this workshop is designed to help teens bring their original characters to life by focusing on the intricate details of their faces. Through step-by-step guidance, teens will learn techniques to create expressive eyes, realistic or stylized noses, and captivating mouths, infusing their characters with personality and depth in the semi-realistic or manga style.

There are many ways to use the Boston Public Library during this period. You can sign up for a BPL library card at bpl.org/get-a-library-card to get an eCard. The eCard provides access to millions of ebooks, audiobooks, movies, newspapers, magazines, journals, databases, and other online resources, including OverDrive, Kanopy, and Hoopla. All you need is a computer, phone or tablet, and an internet connection to access these resources and then log in to bpl.org with your eCard or physical library card.
