Friends Membership: Sign up or Renew!
Please join or continue your support for the Roslindale Branch Library by renewing your Friends membership for 2017. Your membership dues will go towards building improvements, programming, and publicity for the Library, and you will continue to receive our monthly newsletters and special early access to our book sales.
In 2016 your dues were used to support, promote, and enrich the services and programs the Library offers to the public, and to improve the physical facility. The Friends were highly visible in the community with our annual book sale in May and other book sales at the farmers market, Porch Fest, and the Holiday Market. We also provided funding and support for events and initiatives through the Library, including:
– Annual Meeting with Anthony Sammarco’s lecture on Roslindale’s history
– Annual yarn and craft book sale with keynote speaker City Councilor-at-large Annissa Essaibi-George
– Rozzie Reads One Book programming
– Annual Día de Los Muertos and Posada Navideña celebrations
– Ongoing library renovation project
– Small libraries around Roslindale Village
We hope you will continue helping us in the new year! Go to friendsofroslindalelibrary.org/membership to join today.
Posada Navideña 2016
Despite the snow storm, we had a great turnout for our Posada Navideña on December 17, which was held inside the library. In case you missed it, we created a slideshow of photos and a short video from the event!
All Donations Are Welcome!
Many thanks to Ricardo, a manager at Staples, for the generous donation of brand new boxes for our used book storage. Next time you are at Staples, please thank him! The Friends welcome both monetary and in-kind donations. We are always looking for books in good condition, particularly history, new fiction, art and children’s books for our book sales. Learn more about how you can give back to the library.
Volunteers Wanted
If one of your New Year’s resolutions is to get more involved in your community, here is your chance! We are looking for volunteers for a number of Friends’ and library programming, including staff and sorters for our upcoming yarn and book sales, new members for our decoration, renovation and race and inclusion committees, a chess coach and a leader for the English Conversation Group. Please view the job descriptions on VolunteerMatch. If you are interested in any of the positions, contact us at [email protected].
We want your yarn!
The Friends are accepting donations for our annual yarn and craft book sale, which will take place the first weekend in March. Drop off yarn, needles, fabric, project and tote bags, craft books and other crafting accessories at the library during business hours.
Books of the Month
Each month we feature themed book lists grouped for adults, teenagers/young adults, and children, and can be borrowed from the Roslindale Library!
Books about Race and Inclusion
We created a special book list that is related to discussions around race, ethnicity, religion and culture. This is a living book list and it will be updated regularly with new books.
Jump Start the New Year with Books!
Start the new year doing something new, whether you want to exercise more, learn to cook or take up a new hobby. Here is a list of books to help you keep your resolutions on target.
What are you reading?
A new year is a great time to resolve to read more books. Did you read a book that you would like Roslindale to know about? Tell us about it! It can be any fiction or nonfiction book for any age group. We might include it in a future book list. Email your recommendations to [email protected].
Words of Wisdom
The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy. – Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
