Annual Yarn Sale!

Roslindale Branch
Yarn and craft supplies at deep discounts. Also, we will offer $5/bag during the last hour on Saturday. This is our biggest fundraiser of the year, which supports funding for library programming. Yarn, crafting, and book donations can now be dropped off at the Roslindale branch. All proceeds support programs at the Roslindale Branch.
March/April 2023 Book Ambassador: Kerri Greenidge
Dr. Kerri Greenidge is our Roslindale Book Ambassador for March/April 2023. She is the author of The Grimkes: The Legacy of Slavery in An American Family and Black Radical: The Life and Times of William Trotter Monroe. Her books can be borrowed from the library. In this virtual interactive role-playing workshop, you will learn how to prepare for in-person, telephone, and virtual interviews. Online Race and Inclusion Book Discussion:
Begin Again

We will read Eddie S. Glaude Jr.'s book Begin Again. This is one of the great books on James Baldwin and a powerful reckoning with America’s ongoing failure to confront the lies it tells itself about race. Just as in Baldwin’s “after times,” argues Eddie S. Glaude Jr., when white Americans met the civil rights movement’s call for truth and justice with blind rage and the murders of movement leaders, so in our moment were the Obama presidency and the birth of Black Lives Matter answered with the ascendance of Trump and the violent resurgence of white nationalism.
The discussion will happen on Zoom and will be led by local educator Josh Frank. You can get the book from bpl.org or purchase it from Rozzie Bound.
We will have two sessions with 20 participants each on the three dates. Times: Morning session at 9:15-11 AM and an afternoon session at 2-3:45 PM.

Meet Your Neighborhood Age Strong Advocate
Tuesday, March 14, 2 – 4 PM
Age Strong's Mary Sullivan will assist older adults with applying for city services and government benefits and connect them to programs and resources. Mary will be returning monthly on the second Tuesday of each month from 2:00-4:00 pm. This is a drop-in program; no registration is required.
Zero Waste / Recycling Workshop
Thursday, March 16, 6:30 – 7:30 pm
Confused about composting? Mixed up about mattresses? Reservations about recycling? Andrea Scarfo, Zero Waste Coordinator from the City of Boston Department of Public Works, will join us to describe the City’s programs, hand out helpful materials, answer questions, and perhaps provide attendees with a fun zero waste giveaway. Participants will learn about the importance of waste reduction and what they can do to help. This program is in partnership with the Friends of Roslindale Branch Library.

Savvy Information Consumers: A Discussion About Identifying Misinformation on the Internet

Misinformation can spread quickly and widely on the Internet, especially during major news events. In this in-person workshop led by BPL’s Media and Journalism Research Specialist Eric Husting, we will explore misinformation and how false information can appear and spread online. This workshop will also go over tangible tips and critical thinking skills we can employ to vet and verify digital information we see online. No registration is required.
1970s Crime Thrillers Film Series: The Friends of Eddie Coyle (1973)

Join Barry Marshall, Senior Affiliated Faculty member in the Visual and Media Arts Department at Emerson College, to view and discuss the 1973 film The Friends of Eddie Coyle. After his last crime has him looking at a long prison sentence for repeat offenses, a low-level Boston gangster decides to snitch on his friends to avoid jail time. Directed by Peter Yates and starring Robert Mitchum, Peter Boyle, and Richard Jordan. 1 hr 42 min. Registration is not required.

Best for ages 3-5 - Miss Celeste will read two to three stories, sing songs, and do activities that promote early literacy and school readiness skills. Note: if your family includes multiple children, please pick one storytime to attend each week. Pick the one that works best for you and your family.

Explore and Play

Best for ages 0-2 - Meet new friends and explore different stations full of sensory toys, including shakers, bells, and other noisemakers, blocks and magnates; play dough; tunnels and playmats. And more! This is an informal playgroup, so feel free to drop in late or leave early to suit your family's needs.
