The Roslindale Branch is open Mondays - Wednesdays 10 AM - 6 PM; Thursdays 12 PM - 8 PM; Fridays 9 AM - 5 PM; and Saturdays 9 AM - 2 PM.
BPL Library Protocols
All branches follow the latest city and state public health guidance. While there will be no capacity limits or social distancing required, library patrons are recommended to wear masks since the library serves vulnerable populations. Yarn & Book Sale

We plan to do a combined yarn and book sale in May! If you have a stash of yarn, crafting items, or books that you don't need anymore, please donate them to the Roslindale Branch now. There is a bin near the library entrance to drop off your donations. This is our biggest fundraiser of the year. All proceeds from the sale will go towards programming and other initiatives at the Roslindale Branch!
May + June 2022 Book Ambassador
Michael Lowenthal's latest book is Sex with Strangers. He has published four novels—The Same Embrace, Avoidance, Charity Girl, and The Paternity Test. His shorter work has appeared in Tin House, Ploughshares, The New York Times Magazine, Guernica, and The Southern Review. The recipient of fellowships from the Bread Loaf writers’ conference, the MacDowell Colony, and the Mass Cultural Council, he has taught since 2003 in the low-residency MFA program at Lesley University. Before publishing his own work, Lowenthal was an editor at the University Press of New England, where he founded the Hardscrabble Books imprint, publishing such authors as Chris Bohjalian, W.D. Wetherell, and Ernest Hebert. He lives in Roslindale. His books can be found on his Local Authors shelf.
Lowenthal will sign copies of his book, Sex with Strangers, on Saturday, June 25, 12 PM - 2 PM at Rozzie Bound's popup at the Roslindale Substation. His book will be available for purchase at the event.
Roslindale Book Ambassadors is a joint effort of the Friends and Rozzie Bound.

In honor of Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we have a virtual bookshelf featuring books by Asian authors and about the Asian American experience.

Breathe

This special Mother's Day discussion will focus on Imani Perry's Breathe: A Letter To My Sons. Emotionally raw and deeply reflective, Imani Perry issues an unflinching challenge to society to see Black children as deserving of humanity. She admits fear and frustration for her African American sons in a society that is increasingly racist and at times seems irredeemable. However, as a mother, feminist, writer, and intellectual, Perry offers an unfettered expression of love—finding beauty and possibility in life—and she exhorts her children and their peers to find the courage to chart their own paths and find steady footing and inspiration in Black tradition.
The discussion will happen on Zoom and will be led by local educator Josh Frank. You can get the book from bpl.org or an online bookstore like Rozzie Bound, which has the book listed on the Friends "Black Histories and Futures" adult virtual bookshelf. We will have two sessions with 20 participants each on the three dates. Times: Morning session at 9:15-11 AM and an afternoon session at 2-3:45 PM.

- You only need to register once for all three dates, even if you think you might miss a date.

Come learn about the life and work of famous (and not so famous) artists with Miss Celeste! After reading and listening to a short biography and looking at the artist’s work, kids will have an opportunity to make their own art inspired by the artist of the week. We will explore painting, collage, clay, and more!

You may have noticed the new flyer design for announcing BPL events on the bulletin board above the Friends Daily Shelves. The flyers were redesigned to make it easier for patrons to identify events they might be interested in attending.
Event and program flyers are color-coded for audience levels: Adult = orange + green; Teen = magenta + blue; Kids = blue + orange. Dark orange flyers indicate a Central Library based adult initiative.
