Photos From Seattle Public Library
Are you vacationing out of town this summer? If you are and happen to visit a unique, interesting local library, please take pictures and send them to us. We might feature them here in the newsletter and our website! A Friends member recently visited the Seattle Public Library’s central branch, which is an award-winning, architectural marvel. The 11-story, glass and steel building opened in 2004 and has a unique, striking appearance, consisting of several discrete “floating platforms” seemingly wrapped in a large steel net around glass skin. The structure is both a celebration of books and modern technology. The library features computer labs, nonfiction “book spirals,” a cafe, a large reading room, an auditorium, an underground parking lot, and, best of all, a bookshop run by the Friends of Seattle Public Library.
